Only half the usual number of driving tests will be held from Thursday as Transport Malta employees take industrial action ordered by the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin.

The union has registered an industrial dispute with the authority, which, it said had not paid enforcement employees the allowances they were due for the past two months. This was in spite of the fact that these workers had carried out their duties and this payment was agreed upon in the collective agreement, it said.

Representative Martin Caruana said that as from Thursday all the authority's employees will be ordered to go slow, they will not answer telephones and will only reply to e-mails between noon and 4 p.m.

Moreover, driving tests will be cut by half as will the testing on second hand cars imported from the UK.

The UHM said it had made several representations with the CEO and other members of the management and it seemed that workers were losing this part of their income because of pique. This was unacceptable behaviour.
