An incident last night which involved a crash between two taxis near Luqa was caused after somebody spilt diesel on the road, police sources have confirmed.

The incident happened at about 12.30 a.m. opposite the TNT offices and saw one of the drivers being rushed to hospital.

The taxis were being driven in the same direction, but ended up facing opposite directions after the crash.

An eyewitness told timesofmalta.com that the impact was a big one. One of the taxis appeared to have spinned, hitting the other car, the centre strip, a wall and trees.

"A door went one way, a battery went another, pieces were going everywhere," the eyewitness said.

Other taxi drivers were among those who first arrived on the scene to offer assistance.

Two motorcyclists also skidded on the diesel and a young woman was slightly injured.

Meanwhile, another driver suffered head injuries this morning in a head-on crash between a Fiat 126 and a Peugeot 106 at Burmarrad. The incident happened at 7.10 a.m.

The Fiat was being driven by a 23-year-old woman from Attard from Mosta towards St Paul's Bay while the Peugeot was being driven by a 36-year-old man from St Paul's Bay in the opposite direction.

The man was grievously injured but is not in a critical condition.
