A driver has been fined €700 and banned from driving for two months after seriously injuring a motorcyclist in an accident in Paola.

Peter Mamo had been driving up Ghajn Dwieli Road when he crashed into a motorcycle being driven by John Pisani.

The accident happened on December 6, 2010.

Mr Pisani suffered a broken leg and a permanent disability.

Mr Mamo was convicted of having caused an involuntary serious injury, failure to observe traffic rules and having been careless.

The two had different versions of the sequence of events but the court upheld the victim's versions.

Mr Mamo said he was driving on the left. His car was overheating and he drove into a parking slot. As he manoeuvred, the motorcyclist crashed into the car while trying to overtake from the inside.

The victim said the car came from behind him on his right hand side and crashed into him.
