A driver ended up chasing his bus after an apparent brake failure in Rabat early this afternoon.

The incident happened near the Roman Villa and Crystal Palace (Is-Serkin) Bar. The bus fortunately crashed into a roundabout before hitting anything else.

The bus was empty and stationary when the driver suddenly noticed it was moving. He chased after it in an effort to board before it was too late.

People who were waiting for the sightseeing 'train' nearby had a moment of hesitation seeing the unmanned the bus heading towards them, but luckily the vehicle crashed into the roundabout and a pole and stopped.

In late May, a similar incident in Valletta had more serious consequences when an unmanned bus crashed into another vehicle at City Gate, injuring a Chinese woman.

Xiuying Gao, 48, was hurt when a bus mounted the pavement at the terminus and smashed into the bus she was sitting in, flinging her across the aisle. She was taken to hospital with injuries to her right side and released over six hours later.
