Kevin Ellul, 25, of Mosta man was yesterday charged with being involved in a hit-and-run incident that left father-of-two Emmanuel Formosa dead on Sunday morning.

Mr Ellul pleaded not guilty to the involuntary homicide of Mr Formosa, to dangerous driving, being under the influence of alcohol while at the wheel and failing to stop after the accident occurred. The prosecution did not object when Mr Ellul's lawyer, Emmanuel Mallia, requested bail, noting that the accused was not a hardened criminal.

Magistrate Anthony Vella granted Mr Ellul bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000 (Lm2,145).

Mr Formosa, 59, also of Mosta, was hit by a car while jogging near the Flower Power Garden Centre in Triq Durumblat, Mosta, some time between 6 and 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Police Inspectors Daniel Zammit and Therese Sciberras prosecuted.
