A 23-year-old driver, George Camilleri of Attard, admitted in court today to injuring three people in two separate hit and run incidents on Saturday-Sunday night.

Mr Camilleri admitted injuring Priscilla Seisun and slightly injuring Analise Mizzi and Douglas Gauci, driving his car dangerously while drunk, damaging another vehicle and failing to stop at the scene of the incidents.

Ms Seisun was injured when she was hit by Mr Camilleri's car in St Julian's in the early hours of Sunday. She had been walking in the street when she was hit and thrown against another car, suffering  cuts and bruising.

Analise Mizzi and Douglas Gauci were injured a short time afterwards in a nearby street. They suffered slight injuries.

Defence lawyer Steven Tonna Lowell said that his client had been trying to cope with the fact that his father had passed away recently and he had also lost his girlfriend. He asked for his client to be given a conditional discharge.

Magistrate Edwina Grima said this was not possible, especially since he was also charged with relapsing.

Police Inspector Luke Bonello said that Mr Camilleri had to learn his lesson, and a message had to be sent to society that these things should not happen

Mr Camilleri was fined €3,000 and banned from driving for one year. The court noted that he will be paying for the damages caused to the victims.
