The new ETC board will need to do its utmost to rescue €17 million in EU funds, Education and Employment Minister Evarist Bartolo said during a visit to the ETC offices.

"The slow pace over the past nine months of the process to obtain these funds is endangering the possibility of attaining them," the minister said.

"The board will need to work hard to save these funds for the benefit of local businesses and workers."

During the meeting, the minister thanked the previous ETC board for the work carried out in the previous years.

He said a review would be carried out of the various ETC programmes following consultations with social partners.

The review will assess training initiatives and their effectiveness, the quality of service to job seekers and the administration of EU funds by the ETC.
