The first draughts competition, organised at Bay Street in collaboration with the Federazzjoni Maltija tad-Draughts, gets underway on Monday.

The competition will be played in the public area of the shopping complex at St Julian's. Each day, five games will be played between the first groups of contestants as qualifiers will be aiming to reach the final round on December 17.

In all, 48 players will figure in the tournament, divided in eight groups of six. Registration is open to any person who wishes to participate in the event. Closing date of application is Sunday.

Those applying to take part should do so at Bay Street outlets displaying promotion material of the draughts tournament.

The rules adapted are those of the local federation and can be viewed at the corresponding shops accepting the registrations.
