A drama academy offering therapy to socially disadvantaged children was given a boost from the Good Causes Fund yesterday morning.

A cheque of €30,000 was presented to the Helen O'Grady Academy by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech during a visit to the St Paul's Bay primary school.

The drama school provides development and language skills training to children aged between seven and 10 from socially disadvantaged backgrounds or to those who have little motivation to better themselves.

Glad he was able to offer some support, Mr Fenech complimented the academy for a "remarkable job in using drama to support the development of children". He thanked those who have committed their time to the project. The project will run for at least two years, conducted by qualified teachers. The curriculum includes introductory activities, speech, verbal dynamics, creative movement, dance drama and language development.
