Every time it rains, pure, untreated drainage is left on the road and the pavement in upper Naxxar Road and Balzan Valley. This is a big health hazard and causes a lot of hardship to the residents as the frightful material is also accompanied by a terrible smell normally lasting about three days, making it nearly impossible to breathe.

This drainage emerges from two manholes up the road and the problem has existed for the last 40 years. It seems to be getting worse though, as before it used to take place after a very heavy rainfall and now it seems to happen after every rainfall.

The authorities concerned know about this problem but it is as though they show no interest. We have been hearing that something is going to be done about this problem for nearly four decades but to date nothing has happened.

Surely it would not reflect very well on Malta if such a complaint on our plight was to be lodged with the EU.
