Alfred Conti Borda writes:

I shall not delve into the honourable past of Dr George Hyzler because The Times of January 21 published a comprehensive view of his life.

However, what I do wish to say is that Dr Hyzler was close to the people’s heart; he was not only a medical doctor but he was the people’s man. Hailing from Qormi – the town where he lived and which he liked so much – Dr Hyzler was held in high esteem by all those who knew him.

When I was Head of School at the former Qormi A St George from 1999 to 2004, he never missed an invitation to the annual concert.

Besides, he so enjoyed reminiscing about his early school years there that he enjoyed going round the classes surrounding the school yard, over a drink.

Once, when he was Acting President, he even invited some of the schoolchildren and their teachers to visit the Palace, a culturalouting which they enjoyed immensely.

It is not easy to get used to the absence of a person who during his life impressed you with his kindness, his manners, a perpetual smile and a small encouragement here and there.

This was Dr Hyzler: a doctor by profession but above all a gentleman. Our deepest sympathies to his family.
