I would be lying if I said that I did not regret the Labour Party's defeat at the general election. victory. Although the PN's share of the vote dropped by 2.5 percentage points over 2003, meaning a loss of some 12,000 votes, Dr Gonzi still managed to gain the upper hand and will once again govern Malta for the next five years. Three days after the shock of the election result, though, I realised I am even more Labour-inclined today than before.

What does not break me definitely makes me stronger. They can never silence us, not when 50.7 per cent voted against Gonzi PN. They can never silence us. Our voice is the voice of half Malta whether they like it or not, they will have to listen to us!

Today and for the rest of my life I proudly shout out loud, Viva l-Labour!"

Yes, maybe Alfred Sant has called it a day, although I have yet to encounter any other person of his integrity, but the Labour Party will remain. Long live the MLP and whoever is elected its new leader!
