The Greek government last month officially informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that it has fulfilled all legal requirements for the ratification and entry into force of the Double Taxation Agreement, the government said yesterday.

The agreement applies to persons and entities resident in one or both of the contracting states and provides for the exchange of information on the prevention of fiscal evasion. The agreement, signed on October 13, 2006, will enter into force on August 30.

Foreign Minister Tonio Borg described the ratification as an important step in bilateral relations between the two countries and an essential factor for enhancing investment opportunities and trade exchanges.
