Activists from Front Harsien ODZ this morning distributed rocks, packaged as souvenirs to MPs with the message "Better Zonqor, than only a memory of it".

The Front members said this was a reminder to MPs not to abscond from their duty to safeguard Zonqor from development during parliament's summer recess.

Front Harsien ODZ also expressed its disappointment that the heads of agreement between the government and Sadeen Construction Group - which wants to develop a university at Zonqor Point -  has still not been published. The failure to publish this agreement before the Summer recess confirms the complete lack of transparency surrounding the issue.

Front Harsien ODZ also called on government to refrain from announcing any decisions with regards to the siting of Sadeeen Group’s proposed university campus while parliament is not in session.

“Parliamentary scrutiny is crucial. If the site is announced in the next weeks, MPs will not be in a position to ask questions and to request a parliamentary debate. Therefore any results on studies on alternative sites should be presented in parliament.”

The lack of transparency on Zonqor suggests that on environment issues, the government is stubborn and refuses to listen to those who want to protect the common good.
