Fox News has condemned Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump for his repeated tirades against news anchor Megyn Kelly on Twitter.

The network said in a statement that Mr Trump's "vitriolic attacks" against Ms Kelly and "his extreme, sick obsession" with the anchor are "beneath the dignity of a presidential candidate who wants to occupy the highest office in the land".

It praised Ms Kelly as an exemplary journalist and one of the leading anchors in America and said the network will continue to support her "throughout every day of Trump's endless barrage of crude and sexist verbal assaults".

He has upped his attack on Ms Kelly since Tuesday's primaries, calling her "crazy" and "the most overrated person" on television.
