Heritage Malta has repaired a stone column and the front railings of the Domvs Romana in Rabat after they were damaged when a vehicle crashed into the perimeter fence of the historic site in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A neo-classical ornamental finial, which was on top of the column and which smashed into three parts when it toppled over, is being restored at Heritage Malta’s stone laboratory at Bighi.

The fence, including the columns and filials formed part of the original museum which was built in 1925 when Sir Dr Temistocles Zammit was Director of Museums.
