Brother Reno Muscat, OP, a student of the Order of Preachers, was recently ordained deacon at the Basilica of St Dominic in Bologna, Italy, by the Bishop of Imola, Mgr Tommaso Ghirelli.

Bro. Muscat was born on May 22, 1965 in Qormi. After attending primary school he continued his studies at the St Paul's Missionary College in Rabat and afterwards at the Naxxar Technical Institute. In 1996 he obtained a diploma in hagiography.

The Euro Institute for Higher Education honoured him with a Doctorate in Research in 1999. In 2002 he started his pre-novitiate within the Order of the Preachers. In 2005 he obtained a diploma in Theology from INSERM.

After his investiture and the profession, he was sent to study in Italy. He studied at the Studium Interprovinciale Domenicano and the Pontificia Facoltà Teologica dell'Italia Meridionale in Naples. His studies continued at the Facoltà Teologica dell'Emilia Romagna in Bologna.

He has written many articles in journals and Maltese newspapers as well as the book Mhux bil-Ħobż Biss. He has also translated several write-ups and books including San Duminku ta' Gużman, Lill-Hinn mill-AIDS, and Is-Seba' Kelmiet.
