Priced from £16,995, the Journey crossover will follow the Avenger, Nitro and Calibre as Dodge's fourth model to reach the UK.

Dodge will add a fourth model to its range this summer, when the Journey goes on sale. The seven-seat crossover will be available from August, with prices starting at £16,995.

Every model features a 5+2 seating arrangement, with a tilt-and-slide centre row of seats, wide-opening rear doors, extra under-seat storage and air-conditioning that works on all three rows of seats.

The entry-level SE model also features a six-disc CD autochanger, reach- and rake-adjustable steering wheel, electric windows and folding wing mirrors.

Among the standard safety features are ESP and curtain airbags for all three rows of seats.

The engine choice extends to just one petrol and one diesel unit. The 170bhp 2.4-litre petrol comes only in SE trim and with a five-speed manual gearbox, but the 140bhp 2.0-litre diesel has the choice of six-speed manual or (on SXT and R/T trims) dual-clutch automatic gearboxes, which return 43.5 and 40.4mpg respectively. The petrol engine, by contrast, returns 32.1mpg.

Simon Elliott, managing director of Chrysler UK, said: "Dodge Journey is the perfect right-sized vehicle for families that don't want the look of a people carrier, but need the functionality and utility of an MPV."
