When three-week-old Ashlyn Julian suffered an aneurysm, doctors at the University of Kansas Hospital had to get creative. Aneurysms in babies this young are so rare tools small enough to perform surgery don't exist. Doctors also worried that cutting into the infant's brain might cause her to lose too much blood.
The solution? To use a drop of superglue to fix the aneurysm.
Because Ashlyn was bleeding in two parts of her brain, doctors decided the risk was worth it.
Using instruments the size of a pencil lead and a strand of hair, they were able to enter her blood vessel and deliver a lifesaving drop of superglue to her brain.
