Championship leader Valentino Rossi snatched pole position for today's San Marino Grand Prix with a speedy late lap in yesterday's qualifying session. With only minutes remaining, Rossi, 'The Doctor' took a risk by changing his tyres but then produced a time of 1 minute 34.338 seconds to leave Spain's Dani Pedrosa in second. Jorge Lorenzo, second in the overall standings behind Yamaha team mate Rossi, clocked the third fastest time with Spanish compatriot Toni Elias fourth on his Honda.
