Peppi Azzopardi, while reiterating he is for divorce, recently said that at the moment those who are pro divorce are considered to be progressive and those against are conservative and perhaps even naïve.
However, he added – and I agree perfectly well with him – that in 20 years’ time it could be that the situation (or position) would be the other way round.
For instance, St Augustine – who could proclaim from personal experience that Jesus is the only Way to intimate knowledge of God – discovered Him rather late in life. In fact in Confessions of St Augustine he wrote: “Late have I loved you, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new, late have I loved you! You were within me, but I was outside, and it was there that I searched for you. In my unloveliness I plunged into the lovely things which you created. You were with me, but I was not with you; yet if they had not been in you they would not have been at all…
You touched me, and I burned for your peace.”
