Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando said this afternoon that he believes he enjoys support within the PN parliamentary group for his divorce bill. He said before a meeting of the group that he had presented his bill now in order to give his colleagues time during the summer parliamentary recess to discuss it.
Speaking to timesofmalta.com the MP said that feedback he had received led him to believe he enjoyed support within the group.
His bill, he said yesterday, was aimed at the dissolution of marriages which had irrevocably broken down. It was intended to prevent the greater harm to the common good, which was caused by the present local situation where re-marriage was impossible and unregulated co-habitation was rife.
Later yesterday, the Prime Minister told timesofmalta.com that he disagreed with Dr Pullicino Orlando and his method and said the subject was so important that the electorate should have the opportunity to express itself after being informed.
