Some would argue that divorce and annulment have the same consequences. I beg to differ and think it is very misleading to say so.

While it may be true that a family going through divorce faces more or less the same consequences, the effect on society at large is definitely different.

Divorce changes the very meaning of marriage as a lifelong commitment. Marriage as we know it today is taken very seriously and the family is able to live in a safer environment.

Divorce goes against the rights of the family, because it makes it easy for one of the spouses to decide to leave home and start a new family with the blessing of the law.

Should our country allow divorce, it is condoning it and all those voting in favour are responsible, irrespective of their personal moral convictions.

I appeal to all those considering voting in favour to think twice. Once divorce enters the country, it is here to stay and one cannot change one’s mind after suffering the consequences in one’s own family or of their loved ones.

Although one does not need to be a Catholic to be against divorce, I wonder how a person can say he has faith in Christ and yet vote for divorce.

Christ did not mince words against divorce. We either believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and author of life, therefore knowing what is best for humanity, or decide we know best and live a lie.
