The second edition of the cartoons exhibition ‘For Diversity. Against Discrimination.’ is currently on display at The Atrium, St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, Valletta.

Thirty-three original cartoons were submitted by 14 artists in a competition held as part of the campaign “For Diversity. Against Discrimination”, initiated by the European Commission Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities.

In a positive manner, the cartoons showcase aspects of diversity which include race, sexual orientation, age, religion, and disability.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Edward Demicoli, press and political officer at the EC Representation Office in Malta in the presence of Carmen Sammut and Michael Schiavone, who formed part of the selection panel, as well as members of the national working group, artists and guests.

Gilbert Vancell clinched the first prize with “A bigger cultural baggage”. Second prize was awarded to Simon Callus with “Deep Realisation”. Veteran artists Maurice Tanti Burlo` (Untitled) and Debbie Caruana Dingli (… its cool to be different), together with Bruce Micallef Eyanud (Crossing the line) and Louisielle Sciberras (Afterlife) received a special mention.

The other participants included Carima Achokwu Magdi, Marisa Attard, Paul Caruana, Jonathan Cauchi, Marie Claire Farrugia, Rita Lemesre, George Micallef Eynaud and Maria Bianca Zammit.
