World half-marathon champion Mary Keitany plans to attack the world 25 kilometres road record in Berlin tomorrow.

Keitany will make her debut over the distance in the BIG 25 meeting in the German capital, but believes she has the ability to challenge the best time of one hour 22 minutes 13 seconds.

Former Olympic champion Mizuki Noguchi, of Japan, clocked the world mark five years ago en route to victory in the Berlin marathon.

Keitany, who was a runaway winner of last autumn's world half-marathon title in Birmingham, said: "I have trained well and have run up to 30 kilometres in one session."

Keitany, who missed the world record in Birmingham by 11 seconds, showed that performance was no fluke when ending 2009 as the world's fastest 10km and 20km runner.

The 28-year-old Kenyan, who plans to make her full marathon debut in Chicago or Berlin later in the year, hopes her training efforts will come off in the 30th staging of Germany's oldest city road race.

"Since I won the Abu Dhabi half-marathon in January, I have focused my training on the 25km race in Berlin," said Keitany, whose major rivals will be fellow countrywoman Pasalia Kipkoech and Ethiopia's Mare Dibaba.

Paul Kosegei also has a record in his sights. The current holder of the men's world record with a time of 1hr 12min 45sec, set on the Berlin course in 2004, is adamant he can go even faster tomorrow.

"It is my aim to achieve a sub 1:13 time on Sunday," said the 32 year-old Kenyan.

The injury suffered in February has allowed the former world half-marathon champion to recover and concentrate in training on lowering his six-year-old figure with fellow Kenyan Gilbert Kirwa his main rival.

However, with another dozen entrants from the dominant African nation in the 10,000 strong field, Kosgei and Kirwa know they will have to be prepared for any unexpected challenges.
