Wiki Loves Art 2019, a selection of works that have been collected from events held at St James Cavalier and from the Spazju Kreattiv programme between the years 2013 and 2018 are currently being presented at Space A, Spazju Kreattiv at St James Cavalier.

Within this is a sub-collection of ceramic works that highlight the influence and legacy of the late artist Gabriel Caruana, which includes a donation of one of his works to the Fondazzjoni Kreattività collection from the Gabriel Caruana Foundation in 2019.

From tomorrow, Space C will be displaying a number of works from the Fondazzjoni Kreattività collection by women artists whose works have been exhibited at St James Cavalier between 2000 and 2018.

These works feature as part of the Art+Feminism programme, an international project aimed at improving Wikipedia content on women and the arts and to encourage women’s participation in the online encyclopaedia, and specifically to highlight the work of female artists and their artistic contribution in Malta.

From Thursday, February 14, Space B will host an exhibition of the recent activities by Wikimedia Community Malta. This includes showcasing the work that WCM and the M3P Foundation have been doing to document all of the works shown in Space A and Space B, as well as the Wiki Loves Monuments 2018 competition – an international photography event that aims to encourage the uptake of wiki activity by the public by uploading photographs of heritage monuments to Wikimedia Commons, where they can be used and shared freely on Wikipedia and elsewhere.

Four Art Additives events are occurring between January and April that support the documentation and legacy of the works being displayed.

These include a Wikipedia editing workshop on Tuesday, led by Toni Sant; a Gabriel Caruana legacy session on the Wednesday (February8); a discussion session on preserving and accessing the Fondazzjoni Kreattività art collection on February 13; and two Art+Feminism workshops held over the weekend of International Women’s Day 2019 on March 8 and 9, led by a visiting Fulbright scholar.

This programme of events is in association with Wikimedia Community Malta, the M3P Foundation, the Gabriel Caruana Foundation, and the US Embassy Valletta.
