The Monti stalls which have now been discarded cost €976 each to manufacture, Economic Affairs Minister Chris Cardona said in reply to a parliamentary question this evening.

He told David Agius (PN) that while the stalls will not be used for the Valletta market because they did not reached the desired artistic level, they would be upgraded or used for other purposes.

He did not say how many stalls were produced before an outcry forced the government to reconsider and issue a public call for fresh designs.

The original question was put by Nationalist MP Robert Arrigo.
