Locally there seems to be at least one company providing transport for disabled people. This is certainly a much needed service.
I would suggest, however, that this company tone down the extra large signage on its vans. I am sure there are other alternatives to promote its services quite effectively.
I find the current light blue van colouring rather depressing and that the large signage anything but helps the passengers blend into society.
Metaphorically speaking, these vans just lack a huge arrowpointing down from the sky saying, “Behold disabled people in transit”.
Unintentionally, this manner of transport comes across as degrading. Perhaps I am being overly sensitive but I’ve been holding back from writing this letter for years now and just cannot take it any more.
Nobody wants unwanted attention, especially when one is unwell. Our fellow citizens with disabilities deserve a means of transport that respects their dignity and right to blend in unnoticed like the rest.
