Dire Straits co-founder David Knopfler is in Malta to take part in three concerts this weekend to mark the 10th anniversary of Hard Rock Cafe in Malta.

The famous music writer arrived with guitar legend Harry Bogdanovs.

Soon after his arrival, Mr Knopfler was presented with a book by the Malta Tourism Authority and said that he had wanted to visit the catacombs although they looked claustrophobic. He said he felt honoured to be performing at the Manoel, given its long history.

David Knopfler, 57, formed the Dire Straits with his brother Mark in 1977.

He promised that his concerts would be varied, featuring many of the numbers from 11 albums.
