The UEFA Cup final will be contested by German and Ukrainian teams after Werder Bremen and Hamburg SV along with Dynamo Kiev and Shakhtar Donetsk set up domestic semi-final showdowns.

Diego scored twice in a 3-3 draw at Udinese last night to put Werder Bremen into the UEFA Cup semi-finals with a 6-4 aggregate victory.

Bremen's reward is a semi-final against Hamburg who were beaten 2-1 at Manchester City but survived a second-half siege to hang on for a 4-3 aggregate victory.

Shakhtar Donetsk won 2-1 at Olympique Marseille to set up a UEFA Cup semi-final with Dynamo Kiev.

At the Friuli stadium, Udinese took the lead through Gokhan Inler but Brazil's Diego hit back before a double from Fabio Quagliarella brought the tie level at the break.

Playmaker Diego dashed the home crowd's hopes on the hour when his header was adjudged to have crossed the line.

He missed out on a hat-trick when his penalty was saved but team-mate Claudio Pizarro made sure of Werder's progression from close range shortly after.

Hamburg, who impressed in a 3-1 victory last week, extended their advantage after just 12 minutes through Paolo Guerrero.

Elano equalised with a penalty five minutes later and City went ahead on the night early in the second half through a Felipe Caicedo low finish.

City hit the woodwork three times, while Caicedo also had a goal ruled out for offside.

The home side had Richard Dunne sent off for a second booking with 15 minutes remaining but still poured forward in a desperate attempt to level the tie on aggregate but Hamburg hung on.

Shakhtar opened the scoring in Marseille through Fernandinho on the half-hour.

Marseille levelled just before halftime thanks to forward Hatem Ben Arfa but Donetsk snatched a late winner through Luiz Adriano.

Dynamo broke the deadlock in the tie after four minutes when Ismael Bangoura scored with a low drive.

A blunder from Mickael Landreau helped Dynamo double their advantage 12 minutes later, the PSG keeper punching a deflected cross by Aliyev into his own net. Ognjen Vukojevic wrapped it up on 61 minutes.
