Deposits of the mysterious soot reported in the areas around Fgura decreased significantly over the past months, the Prime Minister said in parliament.

Replying to a question by Labur MP Leo Brincat, Dr Gonzi said Mepa had not received reports of the presence of the soot for some time and there were hardly any deposits on the samplers that the Authority had installed.

Laboratories in the UK and Austria have been contacted to analyse the soot once enough samples are collected. More samplers are to be installed in Paola, Tarxien and Sta Lucija.
