The first leg from the women's league final series was marred by a row that broke out near the end of the second quarter when Depiro's Rosanne Falzon retaliated to a foul and threw the ball at her opponent.

An argument broke out. When things calmed down, three players from each side were expelled - Depiro's Falzon, Rachel Tryon and Josephine Grima and Marion Vella, Alexia Darmanin and Doreen Parnis of Hibs.

After a good start Hibs started to fizzle out in a tense match as they could not find a way past a solid Depiro who led 29-17 at half-time.

It seemed that the expulsions hit Hibs hard as they were never in the game after the break.

The second game saw both teams parading their best players pending disciplinary action by the MBA. This time it was a more balanced affair with neither team in command.

Hibs took an eight-point lead after the fifth minute of the first quarter. Depiro's reaction arrived in the last five minutes before the interval to go in for the break leading 29-24.

Towards the end of the third session it was Hibs' turn to forge ahead, 41-40. However, when in-form pivot Marion Vella was fouled out in the third minute of the last session, their chances took a nosedive. Beverly Zammit and Lucienne Bezzina also committed their fifth infringement as Depiro nosed ahead.

Hibs had the last possession but failed to fine enough space to try a shot to Depiro's relief - 2-0.
