Government dentists are up for a substantial improvement in their working conditions following an addendum to their collective agreement that was signed yesterday.

According to the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin, the agreement includes the introduction of an extra duty allowance that will come into effect immediately. Postgraduate tutor allowance for the clinical chairman, consultants and senior registrars and a trainee allowance for registrars, dental surgeons and house surgeons will come into effect retroactively from January 1.

UĦM section secretary Jesmond Bonello said the rest of the collective agreement will continue being discussed between the union and the authorities and should be reached by the end of June.
