Denni 62, 90; Decesare 70
Qormi 2
Grima 3; Effiong 64

Denni's stoppage time goal gave Tarxien Rainbows a dramatic victory over Qormi in a game that put everything the BOV Premier League has to offer on full show.

The nippy Brazilian pounced in trademark fashion to beat Qormi's defiant goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia and provoke hugely contrasting emotions in the technical area.

Massimo Grima put Qormi ahead after just three minutes and everything pointed towards another victory for Jesmond Zerafa's side.

Yet they failed to nail down the win, allowing Tarxien to come from behind on two occasions with some moments of madness by their defence as they threw away the points.

Qormi had laid down their intentions in the very first minute, when Alfred Effiong raced clear down the left flank but a fine last-gasp block from Everton Pereira denied the Nigerian striker.

It was an early sign of things to come and Qormi opened their account in magnificent style as Camilo stamped an instant hallmark of quality on the game.

Joseph Farrugia found the Brazilian striker out wide on the left and Camilo cut inside Ryan Mintoff before bending a delightful shot, only to see his effort parried by David Cassar into the path of Massimo Grima who slotted home despite the goalkeeper getting a touch to the ball.

Grima's strike was followed by a procession of Qormi chances, as Farrugia, Effiong and Matthew Bartolo all shot straight into the hands of the Tarxien goalkeeper.

As well as for some wasteful finishing from the Rainbows, the Qormi fans must have been grateful to Andrew Decesare, when just with the keeper to beat, he blazed his shot off target with an acrobatic scissor-kick.

It could have been so much worse for Tarxien in a first half dominated by a Qormi side oozing with confidence, had not been for Cassar who reacted smartly to beat away Bartolo's fierce shot on 41 minutes.

Grima was at the fulcrum of his side's overwhelming dominance, with Camilo the chief outlet.

On 53 minutes, Grima's rasping shot flew just wide after the ball sat up for him on the edge of the box following a move orchestrated by Farrugia and involving a forward burst from the rampaging Duncan Pisani.

Grima epitomised a determination about the Qormi side but Tarxien appeared unruffled and equalised after 63 minutes. The predatory Denni pounced on a short clearance by Stephen Wellman to rifle home with a sweet shot.

But the Rainbows' joy was short-lived as Qormi regained the lead one minute later. Steven Sadowski sent Bartolo crashing to the ground.

From the ensuing free-kick taken by Farrugia, Effiong was allowed space to head home.

Noel Coleiro's side needed to mount a swift response - and they did it in the most spectacular fashion possible as they drew level again within six minutes.

Once again Qormi were guilty of poor defending as Andrew Decesare collected possession in the Qormi penalty area before he unleashed an angled drive that arrowed into the bottom corner beyond the outstretched arms of Matthew Farrugia.

It provoked a furious attacking response from Qormi but Camilo was guilty of a dreadful miss few moments later, squandering the opportunity to punish his opponents. Effiong ended a surging run with a pass that released the Brazilian inside the area with only Cassar to beat.

A desperate late lunge from the Tarxien defenders may just have distracted him, but to only strike straight into the goalkeeper represented a dreadful waste.

Four minutes from time, Camilo raced clear down the right but with Ryan Deguara screaming for the ball to be played backwards into the box, the nippy striker went alone and his customary composure deserted him and sliced another decent chance wide.

Camilo's miss caused even more pain as Denni cashed in on some hesitation between Ramon dos Santos and Wellman, to dribble past the defenders and send the Tarxien supporters into ecstasy with a clinical finish.
