A total of 30 competitors descended on the race track in Ta’ Qali on Sunday for the annual Demolition Derby to raise funds for charity.

The event is organised every year by the Assoċjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi, capping off a packed programme of motoring activities over the course of the day.

Now in its 25 edition, the Demolition Derby saw 11 new drivers joining 19 others who had already subjected their battered cars to repeated crashes in previous races of this kind.

This year, however, most of the competitors reported that they had found it rather difficult to buy old cars to use for the demolition race.

Although car crashing is the main objective of the event, the drivers have very stringent safety rules to observe so as to ensure the health and safety of other drivers as well as themselves.

The programme included races from the 2018-19 Autocross Pasta Poiatti National Championship. The Motocross riders, too, competed in non-championship fun races.
