The Christmas Junior Open was the last in a series of competitions at the Marsa Sports Club in 2002. This tournament, sponsored again by Pernigotti, is sanctioned by the Malta Tennis Federation and organised by the Tennis Section at the Marsa Sports Club.

Jonas Delicata and Rosanne Dimech emerged winners in the U-18 event and crowned junior champions.

In the boys' final Delicata won the title by virtue of a walkover as his opponent Matthew Borg had to retire injured.

Dimech has already distinguished herself by notching the runner-up position in two senior events. Her performance at the junior championship was highly commendable.

Matthew Asciak, winner of both U-14 and U-16 events, continues to improve while Alan Calleja has maintained his winning spree and consolidates his grading in the U-12 section.

The youngster of the lot, Malcolm Ferrante, has been one of the most consistent players throughout the year and well merited the U-10 round robin event.

Steffi Sullivan and Elaine Genovese, winners of the U-14 and U-12 respectively, are by far the most promising youngsters. Bernie Wirth, a relatively newcomer to the scene, must be delighted after winning the girls' U-10 round robin event.

In other events, Matthew Asciak/Simon Camilleri won the boys doubles and the Plate Open, for boys and girls, was won by Thomas Vella.

Carlos Cluett, on behalf of the sponsors, presented the awards to all finalists.
