Miżieb hosted the sixth round of the ICC Hill Climb and Sprint Championship last Sunday, with 55 entries vying for victory in one of the most technically challenging runs around.

The narrow, winding road, crossing bridge and rise over a blind crest at Miżieb, is often taken at speeds in excess of 100kph after which drivers decelerate rapidly to negotiate a sharp left-hand hairpin with a tightening apex.

Miżieb, however, is most definitely a venue for the spectators as those making the picturesque locality have several vantage points where the action is visible in its entirety, whilst being within earshot of the running commentary, on Sunday produced by ICC official Jonathan Tonna.

Early morning concerns about the weather were dismissed as the sun started to shine brightly as the first run approached, the night-time drizzle essentially being a godsend as it swept the dust off the road.

Group One was dominated by James Dunford, who despite missing his last run still managed to clinch first place. Group Two was won by Charles Cutajar in his legendary Escort Mk1. He managed to blitz to 12th overall, beating other more highly-modified vehicles in the process.

In the full modified category, Nikolai De Giorgio regaled those present with a spectacular performance in his Lancia Delta Integrale as the top three positions went to Paul Deguara, Hubert Camilleri and Joshua Anastasi.

This was Deguara's second successive victory in the championship on board his Motoflash Yamaha.

He is currently second in the overall standings on 53 points.

Camilleri leads the championship with 77 points and Lino Brincat is third on 44.

The next race is scheduled for October 25 at Ġnejna Bay.
