The general government deficit for 2014 stood at €168.6 million, or 2.1 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product – down from 2.6 per cent in 2013.

The debt amounted to €5,421.5 million, or two thirds of the GDP, the National Statistics Office said yesterday. In a statement, NSO said that last year, the deficit went down by €29.9 million, from €198.5 million in 2013.

At the end of the year, the debt amounted to €5,421.5 million, an increase of €176.5 million on the previous year.
