The government deficit stood at €47.5 million in the second quarter of 2015, down from €71.8 million during the corresponding period last year, data released by the National Statistics Office show.

Between April and June, the government’s total revenue stood at €854.5 million - an increase of €59.6 million when compared to 2014.

The increase was mainly triggered by higher proceeds from current taxes on income and wealth (€38.6 million) and receipts from capital transfers (€10 million).

Meanwhile, the same data also shows that government debt at the end of June was €5,663 million, a €100 million decrease over 2014.

At the same time, the government-guaranteed debt amounted to €1,211.7 million at the end of the same month.
