A 6.3 percent decline in passenger movements was recorded by Malta International Airport last month.

This resulted in an average drop of 10 percent for the first seven months of 2009 when compared to the corresponding period last year.

MIA said that total passenger movements on scheduled and non-scheduled flights in July 2009 was of 347,223 a decline of 23,541 when compared to the same month last year Likewise, both aircraft movements and cargo and mail figures registered a decline of 1.6 percent.

Passenger traffic for the UK and Germany, decreased by 10 and nine respectively, while the Italian market registered an increase of 8.4 percent when compared to July 2008.

The busiest day in July 2009 was the 28th in terms of passengers with 14,047 movements whilst the highest number of aircraft movements totalled 108 on the 19th.
