Nature Trust (Malta) has welcomed a decision by the Lands Department to revoke the permit for works in Qawra for the bumping cars track.

It said the decision was taken following the destruction of the natural and historical environment.

Complaints were made last week when a tract of garigue land adjacent to the aquarium construction site was cleared of all vegetation to make way for bumping cars, as happened in previous years.

The Lands Department turned down the permit because the Government has a contractual obligation to disallow other commercial activity within a 50-metre boundary of the aquarium.
