One of Malta’s promising new bands, Negative Spaces has just released its debut single BK2SQR1 (Back to square one). The song was recorded with producer Niki Gravino over a weekend of sessions last February.

Negative Spaces was formed in December 2009, although at the time the band was known as Dynamite. After some line-up changes and auditions for a vocalist, the band competed in and won the JC Battle of the Bands in 2010, only for the success to be short-lived as the band split up a short while later.

After auditioning for bassists and vocalists, in April 2011 surviving members Ryan, Mark and Kersten teamed up with Matthew and Gary to form Negative Spaces, taking their name form an artistic term suggested by band manager Luca Spiteri.

The song BK2SQR1 focuses on the story of a teen trying to deal with problems related to bully-ing, an issue the band feels very strongly about. Their concern is further emphasised in the accompanying music video for the single, which was officially launched last week along with the single.

Negative Spaces will be playing a number of gigs throughout the summer before getting back in the studio in September, when they will record more tracks with Niki Gravino.
