Economist Kristy Debono, who is married the PN assistant general secretary Jean Pierre, announced on facebook today she will be contesting the next general election with the Nationalist Party.

Ms Debono wrote that she felt she had to give something back to her country and the PN had given her limitless opportunities.

She said she felt that the country and the people could continue to acquire success through the opportunities offered by the policy which, in the past four and a half years, had increased jobs, offered the best free health services to all and continued to provide the best possible education.

Ms Debono said that because of this, she felt she had to accept the Prime Minister’s call for her to be a candidate on the ninth district once her candidature was approved by the executive committee.

Ms Debono is a gaming analyst and an avid supporter of responsible gaming. She is a presenter of a financial programme and news.

She is also a member of the PN executive, elected from the youth movement and has served as international secretary of MZPN.

So far, she is the youngest female candidate on the PN ticket and the only economist.

Last June, Ms Debono’s husband Jean Pierre said he had reluctantly put aside his aspiration to become an election candidate because his services were required elsewhere within the party.
