At least nine people died in a 56-vehicle pile-up on an expressway in central China.

The accident was triggered by thick fog  in central China's Henan province.

The accidents stranded nearly a thousand vehicles on a section of Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau expressway, state media added.

Sixty-five fire-fighters and 28 fire trucks were dispatched to rescue trapped people and clear the wreckage.
