A deadly blast of arctic air has continued to grip the United States Midwest, moving eastwards today.

Travel was paralysed as drivers dealt with snowy and icy road conditions, leaving some vehicles stranded on the highway. Thousands of flights were cancelled across the country.

New York's Central Park hit a record low of minus 16 Celsius, but high winds made it feel even colder. Commuters tried their best to beat the cold, bundled up in Times Square.

Moving south, Washington, DC residents were dealing with abnormally low temperatures.

Power crews were braving the cold in Milwaukee to prevent outages. While Americans in general braved the cold, simply to get around. (See video)
