A deceased person who was resident in the Netherlands continued to receive his pension payments from Malta for over two years following his death on 1 February 2008, the Auditor-General reported today.

According to the calculation of the Malta Mission to The Hague, up to August 2010 this amounted to €11,053.

The auditor said that the son of this pensioner failed to inform the Mission of his father's demise.

The amount paid was then requested from the heirs and duly refunded to the Mission by the end of October 2010, following a declaration by one of his daughters admitting the irregularity.

Although the Mission was informed of the passing away of the pensioner, in May 2010, bi-monthly pension payments addressed to him were still issued in June and August.
