Solo singer of Good Life and Get Lucky

Entertainers in dazzling cos-tumes and music with a strong regional flavour will herald the Year of the Monkey during a performance in Valletta later this month.

The China Cultural Centre and the Valletta local council have again joined forces for the customary appointment that sees the Chinese community celebrating the new year in the capital.

The events kick off on January 23 at 9.30 am at Pjazza Teatru Rjal with a parade by the Sizhou Dramatic Theatre from China’s Anhui province, followed by a 60-minute performance combining dance, singing and music.

The Jinan Song and Dance Theatre, from Shandong pro-vince, will perform at the University of Malta’s Temi Zammit Hall on January 29 at 7.30pm.

The show, highlighting the fragrance of spring, combines an eclectic mix of ancient Chinese instruments, a traditional repertoire and refined aesthetics.

An exhibition themed Tempo of China will be mounted at the centre’s art gallery.

The exhibits were selected from over 1,000 submissions by established and debuting Chinese photographers

The images capturing China’s diverse culture have already been displayed in Canada and New York.

The exhibition will run from January 21 to February 26, Monday to Friday, from 9am to 12.30pm and 2.30pm to 5pm.

The end of the outgoing lunar year will also be marked with the screening of a film on February 3 at 6.30pm.

Based on true events, the film recounts the story of three young adults pursuing their dreams in China while the country is going through big changes between the 1980s and the 21st century.
