The Government will open new day centers for the elderly in Kirkop and Mġarr, to enable the elderly to continue living in the community, Parliamentary Secretary Mario Galea mario Galea said today.

He was speaking at the opened an exhibition of crafts made ​​by elderly people who attend the day centre at Żurrieq.

There are currently 19 day centres for the elderly, employing  70 workers. The day centres are used by 1,700 people.

Mr Galea said that the government would continue to offer a diversity of services to enable the elderly to continue living in the  community. The list of services includes meals on wheels, telecare, homehelp, handyman service, respite, MMDNA, Commcare and Outreach.
