More than €254,000 have been collected so far in a charity marathon organised by RTK radio in aid of the Dar tal-Providenza.

The event kicked off at 9 a.m. and continues until midnight. It is being broadcast from the home, which the people are being encouraged to visit.

This is the 13th year the Open Day was held in aid of the home that was opened in 1965 by Mgr Mikiel Azzopardi to improve the quality of life of people with physical and mental impairments.

The home runs at €12,000 a day and is fully dependent on donations from the public to offer its services. The marathon started at 9 a.m. and ends at midnight.

Currently, it cares for 100 residents and has 220 workers.
