Dar tal-Providenza, the home for the handicapped in Siggiewi, has appealed for the people’s generosity at a fund-raising Open Day to be held on January 1.

New director Fr Martin Micallef told a press conference that the home’s 220 employees were currently caring for 100 residents at a cost of €12,000 a day (€4.3m per year).

The Open Day is the main fund-raising event held every year. It is organised jointly by RTK Radio and APS.

Officials from the home said Dar tal-Providenza is funded to a great extent from people’s donations.

The Open Day starts with Mass at 9 a.m. followed by a full day of entertainment. There will be tours around the complex for visitors. A sale of sports memorabilia will be held.

Fr Martin said the homes this year installed solar water heaters, which had halved the electricity bill. A horticulture section had also been set up. A small football ground will be laid next year thanks to assistance by UEFA and the MFA.
